Beginnings

It started a few years ago with two friends having a dinner. During our talk we hit on the same vision at the same time to one day own and operate a spa. We were so excited we called another friend from across the country and the planning began for the three of us. Each of us has our own talents, strengths, and passions that add to each other yet we all have the same ideals. That everyone deserved to share in the sublime feeling of being cared for with natural products in an environment that is nourishing. While the other two friends who were there at the birth of the idea are still engaged in thier corporate careers accross the US. One of us got the Wild Hare and decided to launch with the spa quality products fiorst. So, while the destination day spa that bears our corporate name is in the distant future, you can still have the benefit of the natural products in your very own bath at home.

My passion has always been for bath and body products. I love the natural products and the way they make your skin feel, the aroma of pure essential oils that gently scent a room, the knowledge that what you are using to care for your skin is just as precious as you are. The earliest influencers for me were my grandparents with whom I was fortunate enough to spend a great deal of time. They were always growing things making things, not because they had to, but for the joy of it. They preferred the natural organic products over commercial manufactured ones. Even the most simple of items like bread. They would go to the flour mills and buy their variety of grains, in bulk, then combine them with things like kelp (yes really) and wheat germ to make the most amazing bread. My Grandmother even had my Grandfather build her a special adobe oven in the yard to cook bread in. Even though we lived in the city, they grew incredible gardens that produced the most amazing produce. My Grandfather would plant companion plants like marigolds to keep the bugs away and rotate “crops” to help nourish the soil. He had a compost pile that he tiled and stacked and tiled again to create rich “earth” that he would till back into the garden bed after and before growing seasons to replenish the ground. I don’t ever remember tossing an egg shell in the regular trash, Grandpa needed them for his compost pile. For the furry four-legged creatures that happened by his garden, he offered them their own plate of corn, nuts, and lettuce leaves to encourage them not to eat his garden. Sometimes this worked but sometimes the bunnies were insistent on having lettuce fresh from the garden bed. When harvest time came, out came the kettles for canning and they would set aside food for the winter for their friends and family. It wasn’t until years later that I would really understand what my grandparents were teaching me and the values of those lessons. Creating natural products is a celebration of life and the greatest gift you can give someone is to help nourish them with wholesome products lovingly created. Life has afforded me the amazing opportunity to bring these handcrafted products to you. I hope you enjoy using them as much as I enjoyed making them for you!

Très Spa, the story behind the name

So the planning began, but what would we call ourselves? You need to have a name! Well there are three of us and we want to create a spa…. In the spirit of simplicity we decided to try using two words to create our name. We liked “Très” since it means “three”(Spanish) and “very” (French). It is also a municipality in the province of Italy, but that is purely a coincidence. Of course we like the word “Spa” since for us those three little letters mean much more than a simple bath. So Très Spa was an easy choice for a name.

Très Spa, the logo

While we researched the name, we also researched the number three. In this research we found an incredible story of the image of three hares chasing each other in a perpetual circle sharing the same three ears yet each appear to have two. The eldest of the images is in some ancient caves high in the Himalayan Mountains. While no one is certain of the origin or its meaning, the image is found in many artifacts from the Buddhist temples in the Hymalayans, to the medieval churches in Europe, in a Jewish synagogue, and in artifacts from Islam.  We liked the mystery and the unity of the symbol so we adopted it for our logo.

The logo design of the three hares was drawn by Emilie Louise Foster after taking several years break from her art, she agreed to be commissioned to draw the logo for Très Spa.  She was an incredibly talented artist who had such passion and before she passed away in November 2008, she saw her drawing come to life in our products. It was one gift I could give my mother who gave me so much, to know she would be remembered and her art would live on. And now, she too has entered that mysterious web of the Three Hares.
